Sylvia Morgado is a mixed media artist and writer with a collaborative and socially engaged practice working in the intersections of arts and wellbeing who had exhibited in the UK and internationally. Making the use of thought provoking techniques to engage spectators, her body of work assembles text, storytelling, installation, performance and interactivity, exploring the senses; leading visitors to a participatory multi-sensory experience.

Recent projects include also photography, video and sound. Is common in her work the use of recycled materials and typewriters. Her practice reflects her passion for words (written or spoken) and her stories are short and at the same time poetical and sharp; fragments of everyday life.

Her work is a mixture of different cultural influences. Interactivity is an outstanding point in her works, which has influences of artists such Helio Oiticica, one of the pioneers in the viewer participation movement, Neo-Concretism and Fluxus. Concret Poetry, Modern Literature and Bossa Nova are also references in Morgado’s works.

In London, Morgado performed at the Victoria & Albert Museum; completed a residency at the Barbican Centre, as part of the project Hack the Barbican, interacting directly with participants; and has exhibited and performed at Debut Contemporary Gallery. In Los Angeles, she was part of group exhibitions at the Orange County Centre for Contemporary Art (OCCCA) and FlagStop – an alternative contemporary arts event, as well as she had her works shown at the Hudison Lindk Gallery.

Morgado has three self-published books: “It happens!”; very short stories, “Untitled,” a poetic prose in dialogue format; and “23seconds”, a collection of 23 short stories of everyday life. All of them are part of performance installations.
